The finale transforms a Ukrainian folk-like theme into a breathless contest of rhythm and momentum. A broad contrasting melody briefly opens the space before the principal dance returns with greater force.
Kissin combines youthful brilliance with remarkably firm control, while Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic give the movement symphonic weight. The closing acceleration feels not merely fast but triumphantly cumulative.
